A. Does Chord Genie show slash/power chords?
Yes. Power chords are also known as "5" chords. Select "Find Chord", select a root note, and then select "5" from the grid within Chord Navigator screen.

Slash chords are chords where a note other than the usual root note is played as the bass note of the chord. So you can have, for example, a G chord with D as the bass note instead of G. You are not limited to just Major chords, any chord type can be selected as a slash chord, e.g., G/D, Gmin/D, G7/D etc.

When selecting a chord, you normally select a root note, e.g., G, and a chord type, e.g., Major. For slash chords, you also need to select a bass note. To do this, on the "Find Chord" screen choose the required bass note using the appropriate keys on your phone. Some phones use different keys, so let ChordGenie tell you which keys to use. Select "Help" from the main menu, then "Getting Started". Scroll down to the paragraph that starts with "For slash chords...", and it will tell you the keys to use on your phone.

Troubleshooting

A. Why can I only view A chords?
Chord Genie is supplied as a locked program that has limited functionality. In order to access all features, you must purchase a registration key to unlock the product. Click here for further information. Back to top

A. Why is there no sound?
First make sure that your phone is not in silent mode, as this can prevent Java applications such as ChordGenie from producing any sound. Even if your phone is not on silent mode, the main volume setting may need increasing. If your phone has volume buttons on the side, you may be able to use these. Often, the volume buttons only functions whilst ChordGenie is actually producing sound. You may also need to look in your phone's settings menu for volume settings.

Some phones, have a special volume setting for Java applications. Look in your phone's menu for settings related to Java. Make sure this Java volume is turned up.

For the sound to function in Chord Genie, your phone must be Multimedia API (MMAPI) enabled. If your phone specification mentions any of MIDP 2.0, JSR135 or JTWI 1.0, the Mobile Media API (which enables the sound to work correctly), should be included. The sound function, metronome and pitchpipe are bonus features in ChordGenie. You can still use the application for its primary function of looking up chords for your chosen instrument. Back to top

A. Why do I not see Metronome, Pitch Pipe or Hear Chord on the menus?
When Chord Genie starts, the program automatically detects whether your phone is MMAPI enabled. If it is not, these bonus features are removed from the menus as they will not function correctly on your phone. Back to top

A. When I want to hear the chords or use the metronome, the sound is not very loud.
Use the volume control on the phone to increase the sound. Depending on the model of your phone, you may have to do this when the Chord Genie application is running. On some phones you may have to change the volume settings in the phone or there may be a volume setting specifically for Java applications. Refer to the instruction manual that came with your phone for further information. Back to top

A. Can I change the tone of the Metronome?
There are three different sounds you can choose from to suit the sound capabilities of your phone. When you are in the Metronome screen, press the key indicated next to 'Tone' at the bottom of the screen to cycle through the different sounds until you find the one you prefer. Chord Genie will automatically remember which sound you have chosen next time you use the Metronome. Back to top
